When will the “ASSAMESE GAMOSA ” get the GI Tag ?

The Institute of Handicraft Development of Golaghat District , submitted an application for the GI Tag  on October 16, 2017.

The Geographical Indication Registry diary of October 24 stated, “Gamosa is a customary material of Assam. It bears incredible essentialness for the individuals of Assam.

Gamosa is one of the special identity of Assamese society. It is an image of Assamese culture. This is a handloom item, which has high regard and wide use in Assamese culture.

A white rectangular bit of fabric with a particular red fringe and themes, the gamusa is one of the noticeable social identifiers of the Assamese people group. It is comprised of two words – ‘ga’ which means body and ‘musa’ which intends to wipe.

Gamosa  has high respect and  various uses in Assamese societies. Gamosa unites the entire Assamese society.

A GI tag is an indication that shows that a given item has a particular topographical birthplace and has the norm of value ordinarily ascribed to results of that root. The GI labels are allowed to exceptional items with recognizable highlights.
