AssamGamusa.com is a special attempt to offer the world a unique experience of the rich heritage and culture of the Assamese people and its varied aspects, one of which is the ‘Gamusa’, which is a symbol of our identity and distinctiveness. Our focus will be to lay out in front of the world, the vivid and vibrant colours and designs of the Assamese ‘Gamusa’, which is woven by skilful and dedicated woman weavers of our state, situated in the North Eastern Region of India. Mahatma Gandhiji had himself praised the weavers of Assam, remarking “Assamese woman weave dreams on their looms.” Moreover, our effort will eventually encompass all the ethnic groups and tribes of Assam, since they too have their own unique style and variations of handicraft and weave some very intricate indigenous clothing and jewellery.
